How to Use Hama Beads

Step 1
Step 2
Step 3

Place beads, one by one, on a pegboard to create a pattern. You may use a pattern from one of our Inspiration Booklets, or you may use your own imagination to create your own.

Place the ironing paper on top of your design. Use a household iron to fuse/melt the beads together to create a permanent design. All you need are a few seconds. Do not overheat the beads. Make sure that you never touch the pegboard with a hot iron as this will damage the pegs.

After a few seconds to cool off, you remove the design from the pegboard and then you have your completed Hama design!

Ironing must be done by an adult! Use our special ironing paper to guarantee a perfect result.

Q: Why is Hama unique?
A: What makes Hama unique is that you can create a design and then ask a responsible adult to iron it for you, which will leave you with a permanent design.

Q: How long do I need to place the iron on the design?

A: Hottest setting for Maxi and Midi Beads, Silk/Wool Setting for Mini beads.

Q: How long does the design have to stay on the pegboard after ironing?
A: Approx. 2/3 minutes. The beads are easier to remove from the pegboard when the beads are allowed to cool.

A: Hama beads are manufactured in Denmark. The Company was founded by Malte Haaning in 1961 where he started the production of drinking straws. Hama beads was introduced into the Danish market in 1971 and is now exported to more than 50 countries worldwide. It is still a family run business today.

A: Hama has excellent educational benefits. It can teach your child hand-eye co-ordination, fine-tune motor skills, aid in colour matching and help to develop your child’s creativity and concentration levels. School’s love Hama beads for all its educational benefits.

Q: What is the difference between Midi and Mini Beads?
A: Hama Mini Beads range is based on the smallest Hama bead with a diameter of 2.5mm. This size is intended for children from 10 years through to adults of all ages who enjoy crafts such as cross-stitching. Due to the size of the bead a pair of tweezers will have to be used.

As the beads are so delicate you will be able to make very detailed and sophisticated designs and patterns, only lack of imagination will stop you!

Mini Beads work in the same way as Maxi and Midi. When you have finished your design put a piece of ironing paper on top, set your iron to the wool/silk setting – as the beads are smaller than Midi.
